The Queer Power of God Vocational Exploration Program

LGBTQ identified Christians often experience the power of social norms through the lens of church and claims that communities speak on behalf of God. “Because it is God’s Word…” is often heard as justification for the exclusionary exercise of such power. Queer theology resists this kind of exclusionary power as a misrepresentation of God. Come and see how theological education gives you the resources to ask difficult questions about how Christians understand power, in particular God’s power, through biblical texts, theological images, and worship practices. Together as a community, we will learn to claim understandings of the Bible, images of God, and experiences of Spirit that enrich and enliven the creative diversity with which each of us is wonderfully made.

This program will be led by Dr. Katherine Shaner, Assistant Professor of New Testament.
