Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

About this Event
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) provides free tax preparation assistance primarily for low-income individuals and families. VITA volunteers must complete training certification through the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) training program prior to participating. Beginning in the spring semester, students can volunteer as greeters, tax preparers, and quality reviewers in partnership with Experiment in Self-Reliance (ESR), a non-profit with the goal of reducing poverty in Winston-Salem, NC.
From Monday, January 27, 2025, through Tuesday, April 15, 2025, you can volunteer with the ESR. The days and hours of operation will be:
Monday - Thursday: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
You do not have to stay for the entire time. The ESR is located at:3480 Dominion Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
In order to volunteer, you must complete the training, which includes passing the following 3 exams:
2024 Volunteer Standards of Conduct Exam
2024 Intake/Interview and Quality Review Exam
2024 Basic Exam
Please send a copy of the certificate for passing the exams to a Project Coordinator when you are finished.
