About this Event
Celebrate 2023 Native American Heritage Month with the Intercultural Center and Office of Sustainability. Join us for the third-annual Tohi Talks, a dialogue series set in the Tohi Garden located along McPherson Road behind Angelou Hall. Two (2) talks on separate days will highlight themes of environmental stewardship, Indigenous scholarship, and mindfulness practices.
RSVP for one or both of the following conversations:
11/14 from 3:00 - 4:00pm - Meditating like a Mountain: Experiencing Mindfulness Immersion as an Affirmation of our Bond with the Other-than-Human World. Join Dr. Ulrike Wiethaus to learn about the origins of the Tohi Garden and for a contemplative immersive workshop beginning with a reading from a collection of essays by Indigenous women. Dr. Wiethaus is one of the co-founders of the Tohi Garden and Professor Emerita in the Department for the Study of Religions and in American Ethnic Studies.
11/30 from 3:00 - 4:00pm - Great Reads in Indigenous Fiction (and maybe a little non-fiction). Join Dr. Julie Velasquez Runk for a look at favorite collected works by Indigenous authors with Indigenous themes. Dr. Runk is the Director, Professor & Weigl Fellow of the Environment and Sustainability Studies Program.
*Registration is kindly requested. In case of rain, the Tohi Talks will be moved indoors and a location will be announced.
