The World That Food Made with Raj Patel

Join the Office of Sustainability for a keynote lecture by writer, activist and academic, Raj Patel, on "The World That Food Made." The modern world had the food system at its heart. Everything that we take for granted today, from wage work to the nation-state has its origins in the new ways of provisioning that emerged in the 15th century. By looking at the origins of the modern food system, and some 21st century ways to re-imagine it, it becomes easier to see the social fabric of everyday life that, too often, remains hidden.  This talk draws on world history, agronomy and will feature footage from the latest film by award-winning director Steve James (of Hoop Dreams fame) in a project called "Generation Food."
