Join us for a Zoom talk by Dr. Caitlin Marley on digital humanities approaches to Classical literature. Marley will discuss her research on Marcus Tullius Cicero, in which she applies distant reading techniques to his corpus to gain a more complete view of this political figure in ancient Roman history. Marley will discuss the application of DH methods such as a stylometric analysis of Cicero’s entire corpus, a sentiment analysis of his orations, and a network analysis of his letters. She will also discuss Digital Cicero, where she has created interactive visualizations of the sentiment employed in Cicero’s speeches and Cicero’s networks of correspondents. You can read more about her digital humanities work in the Society for Classical Studies blog post, Digitally Mapping Cicero’s Networks, Letters, and Emotions.

Caitlin A. Marley is an Adjunct Instructor in World Languages and Cultures at Bowling Green State University.
