The Wake Forest Concert Choir and Collegium Vocal Ensemble will close the 2015-16 academic year with a concert entitled “Taking Flight: Postcards from the Wings of Spring.” The season when everything is in bloom and birds are flying and singing has been a rich source of inspiration for poets and composers throughout history. Concert Choir will open the program with a set of compositions from the Nineteenth Century by Felix Mendelssohn and Charles Villiers Stanford. Collegium will sing music by Morley and Mendelssohn and present Lennon and McCartney’s Blackbird as arranged for The King’s Singers. Concert Choir will end the concert with a set of compositions by Eric Whitacre, opening with Little Birds for mixed choir and piano on poetry by Octavio Paz, and closing with The Flight from Whitacre’s masterwork Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine. Vocalists from the performing studio of Teresa Radomski will add songs about spring and birds to the program, as well.
