THIS IS A PAST EVENT.
The Winston-Salem Regional Science Olympiad Tournament will be held at Wake Forest on Saturday, February 29. Twenty-five middle and high school teams from a seven-county region will be competing. The teams can have as many as 15 students each, so with parents and coaches, there will as many as 400 visitors on campus for the day.
The tournament is not a science fair, instead, it is often described as a science track meet. Each student can compete in up to four of the 46 middle or high school events with names like Designer Genes, Dynamic Planet and Forensics. Individual and team trophies are awarded. The joy of the tournament is that pleasure of awarding trophies to kids for doing science!
The tournament requires more than a hundred volunteers, most of whom are Wake Forest faculty and students. It is organized by Gloria Muday, Susan Tague and Carole Gibson, from the Department of Biology. The events are held in Winston, Salem, and Olin Halls and the Reynolds Gym.
