 rofessor Yin Mei\, creator and choreographer of the dance performance\, "P
 eony Dreams – On the Other Side of Sleep\," will discuss her journey thr
 ough time to the world of young love and romantic dreams immortalized in T
 he Peony Pavilion by the sixteenth-century playwright Tang Xianzu and her 
 own scarred memories growing up and performing as an adolescent member of 
 the Henan Provincial Song and Dance Troupe during the Cultural Revolution.
   \n\nYin Mei is professor and director of the dance program at Queens Col
 lege\, City University of New York and winner of numerous national grants 
 and fellowships. Her work has received recognition by the Guggenheim Found
 ation\, the Rockefeller Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Arts\,
  the Asian Cultural Council\, and the New England Foundation for the Arts.
   \n\nThis lecture and conversation is made possible by the National Dance
  Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts\, Wake Forest Universi
 ty Interdisciplinary Arts Center\, and Wake Forest University Departments 
 of History and East Asian Languages and Cultures.
