THIS IS A PAST EVENT.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service promotes Dr. King's ideals of service, equality, and non-violence. For more than a decade, we've honored this legacy with our annual "Read-In" event. For the past two years, we've had to host this event virtually, but we're planning to be LIVE AND IN-PERSON on the campus of Wake Forest University on Saturday, January 21, from 8 am to Noon!
Along with our partners at HandsOn NWNC, Winston-Salem State University and others, this event pairs children from kindergarten to 5th grade with a "Reading Buddy" (typically, a college student ) who will lead them through various educational activities. At the event, each child will receive one age-appropriate book and one new civil rights-themed book. We'll be planning carefully with our partners to help ensure that we keep both our youth participants and our volunteers as safe as possible, while still relishing the opportunity to be together once again, building connections and allowing our participants to enjoy the experience of being on a college campus.
Let's celebrate Dr. King's life and promote his message about civil rights, literacy, and the importance of community service! Be one of the first to either volunteer OR sign-up a child aged 4-10 to participate!!
