THIS IS A PAST EVENT.
The GateKeepers Workshop Series was launched in 2009 to help members of the Wake Forest community expand their understanding diversity and inclusion and to enhance their cultural competency and cultural humility.
Since 2009, more than 2,000 individuals have participated in GateKeepers, which now includes four signature workshops. Through these workshops we have explored cultural differences in values, perceptions, and communication styles; learned to use tools for engaging more effectively across difference; and identified our conflict styles as well as styles that are difficult for us to embrace and understand. In addition, we explore how our genuine and equalized contact with people who are different from us can in fact help us to reduce our biases and challenge the stereotypes that we use to form a single story of others.
We've covered a lot of ground and yet, we know that cultural competence is not a destination -- it is a journey. As with anything that we learn, it helps to revist concepts and ideas and to create space to remember what we already know but may have forgotten or started to take for granted and to acknowledge what is working (or not working) for us.
Join us for a refresher of GateKeepers 1, 2, and 3. Together, we will review key concepts, learn new ways to put the lessons that we learned into practice, and renew our individual commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
