THIS IS A PAST EVENT.
Paintings by Louisiana-born Kendall Shaw, whose best-known works were part of the Pattern and Decoration movement of the 1970s and 80s, will comprise Energy Rocks Our Enormous Crib. Other of Shaw’s paintings reveal minimalist and pop impulses. They combine the energy, rhythm and emotional directness of color, the sociopolitical implications of biblical events, and erotic jouissance.
Shaw, trained initially in the sciences, takes as more than metaphor the fact that everything, ourselves included, is energy vibrating in space. He creates his work in positive opposition to what he sees as a pessimistic age, one in which “the end of painting” has been declared several times.
