In this introductory course, participants will review the definition and history of mentoring and coaching presented in Course 1 and examine the roles and strategies effective mentees use. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to build their mentoring networks as well as how to create effective formal and informal mentoring relationships. Course 2 of 2 leading to the Introductory Mentoring Skills Certificate.
Learning Outcomes:
- What is it? A review of the definitions of mentoring and coaching, and how they fit into roles and responsibilities of faculty and staff at WFU.
- What do effective mentees do? Roles, responsibilities, and strategies that mentees employ. Review of the mentoring conversation model.
- Practice with the mentoring conversation model.
- Finding a mentor and building your network. Identifying opportunities to create effective mentoring relationships.
