26th Annual Flute Fest

Kathy Levy, director.

WFU flute students and the Silver Wind Flute Choir of Winston-Salem will perform solos, small ensembles, and flute choir music.

Since 1988, Kathryn Levy, Senior Lecturer at WFU, has organized and prepared an annual flute concert at WFU. From 198 - 1994, the concerts were known as Student Flute Concerts. Starting in 1994, with the formation of the Silver Wind Flute Choir of Winston-Salem, the concerts became known as Flute Fest.

The Flute Fest concert will feature the WFU Flute Choir, solo performances by WFU flute students, and the Silver Wind Flute Choir of Winston-Salem. Repertoire will include music of Otar Taktakishvili, Cecile Chaminade, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Yvonne Desportes, and Christopher Caliendo as well as transcriptions by Louis Daquin and Gustav Holst.

In the tradition of former Flute Fest concerts, community flutists of all ages will join all of the other performers to form a mass flute choir which will perform the Pavane by Gabriel Faure.
