THIS IS A PAST EVENT.
As part of the Reynolda Film Festival, acclaimed artist and filmmaker Edgar Arceneaux is presenting his film, “I told Jesus, Change My Name”, and giving a talk about his work.
The film focuses on Edgar’s mother, Merc, singing a traditional spiritual that dates back to slavery in the US. Merc pleads for change in some form, as she sings the song in different ways and responds to the suggestions and direction of her son.
Edgar Arceneaux’s work takes many forms, including film, public art, installation, and drawing. His work has been presented in numerous venues internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the Kitchen, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Basel, Switzerland.
