Do you do things that others should or could be doing?
Do you fail to focus on the most important aspects of your job?
Are you overwhelmed with your work responsibilities?
Delegation is, quite simply, getting things done through others. Effective delegating is not telling other people what to do. It is handing over authority and responsibility for a task, and then holding that individual or team accountable for results.

Easy? No way! But necessary. Too many otherwise good leaders have been de-railed by their refusal to share responsibility with others. When it is done right, delegation helps the leader to focus on other priorities – but more importantly, it expands the skills, confidence, and ability of those who receive new assignments. Poor delegation, on the other hand, may lead to resentment, performance problems, and ultimately turnover for people who feel like they are not getting opportunities to learn and grow.

Our objectives for the course are as follows:
To recognize the differences between stewardship delegation and gopher delegation
To identify the self-imposed barriers to delegation
To determine what types of tasks managers delegate most and why they fail to delegate other tasks
To identify specific strategies, actions, and skills for delegating effectively
