2022 German Documentary Film (English Subtitles) by Sönje Storm

The film poetically explores the life and work of the director’s great-grandfather Jürgen Friedrich Mahrt (1882-1940), who sold part of his inherited farm to purchase a high-end camera and capture the vanishing fauna of his home region’s marshlands. In 1928, he opened a small museum in the attic of his farmhouse, displaying photographs and a collection of stuffed animals, some of which are extinct today. An exceedingly stimulating excursion, congenially accompanied by the scurrilous electronica sounds of Dominik Eulberg and Bertram Denzel.
