In this public lecture, Professor Tonio Andrade of Emory University, a renowned scholar on late imperial China and the early modern world and author of four important monographs in military, diplomatic, and global history, will reinterpret the two last peaceful negotiations between China and European powers before the Opium Wars.
This event is co-sponsored by the Wake Forest University Department of History, the Provost’s Office for Global Affairs, the Humanities Institute (with a major grant from the NEH), East Asian Studies Minor, and East Asian Languages and Cultures.
