About this Event
1965 Wake Forest Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27109
In 1988, Benjamin Spencer—newly married and expecting his first son—was convicted of a murder he did not commit. It would take 34 years for this grave injustice to be corrected.
Journalist Barbara Bradley Hagerty’s 2024 book, Bringing Ben Home, chronicles Ben’s extraordinary resilience, his unwavering commitment to truth, and the decades-long legal fight that ultimately led to his exoneration. The book offers a sobering yet hopeful examination of the American legal system and its complex pursuit of justice.
You are invited to join us for a moderated discussion with Benjamin Spencer, Barbara Bradley Hagerty, and Wake Forest Law Professor Mark Rabil as they explore themes of law, justice, and the excellences of character that make advocacy a force for good rather than ill.
