https://wakeforestmuseum.org/event/ben-shahn-passion-for-justice-film-screening/Join us on Thursday, March 23rd for a film screening and panel discussion focused on the life and work of Ben Shahn. For this special event, we welcome Allison Slaby, Curator at Reynolda House Museum of American Art, and Barry Trachtenberg, Rubin Presidential Chair of Jewish History at Wake Forest University. All are welcome.
A young Jewish immigrant, Ben Shahn fearlessly recorded in paint and on film a broad swath of America’s social landscape, from the Great Depression to the Civil Rights Movement. Ben Shahn: Passion for Justice presents the biography of an artist who fused political awareness with modernism, whose works were as likely to appear on the cover of Time as in the Museum of Modern Art. After the film, Curator Allison Slaby and Dr. Barry Trachtenberg will offer more insight into the life and work of Ben Shahn.
Our spring exhibition 1969: Reflection & Reimagination features two prints by Shahn. Arrive early to view the exhibit.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required; however, we encourage individuals to sign-up in advance because seating in the museum auditorium is limited.
