A Man for All Seasons: Dramatic Reading
Friday, October 3, 2014 6pm
About this Event
Farrell Hall, Winston-Salem, NC
You are invited to a dramatic reading of the play A Man for All Seasons, written by Robert Bolt. This is the story of Sir Thomas More (1478-1535), an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, and statesman who surrendered his life rather than turn his back on his firmly held principles.
"When statesmen forsake their own private conscience for the sake of their public duties, they lead their country by a short route to chaos.” -- Sir Thomas More
Before the dramatic reading begins, please join us from 3:30-5:00 pm in Farrell Hall, Room A-17 for a lively discussion about Thomas More and an exploration of the difficulties of maintaining one's principles and acting with character and integrity in a world that seems to demand compromise.
The guest speakers will be Christian Miller (WFU philosophy), Kevin Jung (WFU Divinity School), and Jeff Powell (Duke law).
There will be an appetizer reception at 5:30 pm in the Hall of Excellence, just outside of Broyhill Auditorium.
The A Man for All Seasons presentation will begin at 6:00 pm in Farrell Hall’s Broyhill Auditorium. It is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the BB&T Center for the Study of Capitalism, and the Interdisciplinary Performance and Liberal Arts Center of WFU.
