2026 Margaret A. Steelman Lecture
The Future(s) of Liberation Theology
March 19, 2026
9:00am - 4:00pm

In a moment marked by global crisis, democratic retreat, and deep moral uncertainty, liberation theology remains one of the most vital theological traditions for thinking critically about faith, power, and the possibilities of collective life. The 2026 Margaret A. Steelman Lecture features a series of conversations with five distinguished theologians on the future(s) of liberation theology:
  • Edgardo Colón-Emeric, Duke Divinity School
  • Kelly Brown Douglas, Harvard Divinity School
  • Robert Ellsberg, Orbis Books
  • Dwight N. Hopkins, University of Chicago Divinity School
  • Grace Ji-Sun Kim, Earlham School of Religion
Across diverse contexts and traditions, this gathering will consider how liberation theology is being reimagined to inspire hope and human flourishing.
