The WFU Philosophy Department welcomes David Bradshaw, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Kentucky, who will present this year's Carswell Lecture in Philosophy, "God and the Essence-Energies Distinction."

Abstract: The essence-energies distinction is an idea developed by the Christian Church Fathers of the 4th-7th centuries that has been widely neglected in modern philosophy of religion. This talk will explain the idea and show how it can be applied to central issues in the philosophy of religion such as divine simplicity, divine freedom, and the action of God in history.
