THIS IS A PAST EVENT.
You are cordially invited to attend Wake Forest University School of Divinity’s Jazz Vespers Service, a unique worship experience taking place at Wait Chapel on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 at 7pm.
Jazz Vespers is a derivative of the ancient church’s evening vespers or evening prayers service fused together with the musical genre of jazz. From the vespers tradition, we will lift up individual and collective prayers, as well as hear various readings, scripture, and poetry.
We are privileged to have a conglomeration of North Carolina’s very own professional jazz musicians sharing their gifts in the Jazz Vespers Big Band. Music for the evening will be performed from the archives of Duke Ellington with selections such as “Heaven” to hymns like “Down at the Across” and “Were You There?”.
As we matriculate through the Lenten season to Easter this celebration of worship through jazz and prayer aspires to help usher individuals to experience the “power of the blood” anew. Our prayer is that the Triad community will come together to experience the intersectionality of jazz music and prayer.
Event Coordinators include divinity students Sean T. McClure (MDiv '19) and Sophia Russell (MDiv '18).
