THIS IS A PAST EVENT.
In a time of enormous political uncertainty some are calling for Americans to think and speak less frequently about race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and other identities. Instead of focusing on identities presumed to divide the electorate, we are encouraged to politely submerge specific concerns in order to focus on overarching identities. This lecture presents opposing theoretical, historical, and empirical evidence, and instead argues for robust engagement of race, gender, and all other impolite political topics in order to build a healthy American public sphere.
